My name is Jorgi and I am an addict.

Welcome, I’m so glad you’ve found me.

How are you? (You can answer me honestly, I genuinely care)

Given that this is the first time we have met (in the virtual sense of course) I thought I should start with the basics.

My name is Jorgi, I am just shy of 33 years old and for the last 11 years I have been an addict.

I would like to say that I was aware of the glaringly obvious label I have just placed upon myself but the sad reality is, I was in absolute denial for most of my journey through ‘active addiction’. You name it, I tried it..but that story is for another day.

I would also like to say that when I was taken to my first Alcoholics Anonymous meeting just over a year ago that I never had another drink. Of course, that wasn’t the case and earlier this year I began a 28 day in-patient addiction treatment programme. I’ve heard it said many times that you have to hit ‘rock bottom’ before you begin to get well. Personally, I disagree, I just believe you have to have had enough and I truly had. I was sick of being sick.

My recovery began the day I walked through the hospital door.

Today I can say I am 115 days sober. Today I am working a recovery programme. Today I want to share my journey with you.

So I’m asking you to get in touch with me. Send me an email. Tell me your story. If you want to, you can even give me your address. My passion is writing and if i can send a little bit of light your way, in the darkest of times, I’d like to do so.

For now, I will end on these words that someone much wiser than me once said…

“Secrets keep you sick.”

So share yours with me and i’ll share mine with you.

Love and light,

Jorgi x
